Portobello Market Day 2016

FreddoWe’re a hardy bunch on the Otago Peninsula and Sunday’s market was a good test of that resolve. The blustery weather and squally showers were a reminder that we are well into winter. Despite the weather the market was very successful and well attended by around 600 people. Once again Jonathon Usher and Pippity Pop proved very popular with children and adults alike and there were plenty of bargains to be had. The support we receive from Cadbury’s really helps the market day, and has become a popular event in Portobello. We look forward to hosting it again next year.

Peninsula Show 2015

The Peninsula Show is annual event that Peninsula people make a real effort to attend. It has everything from tough guys sweating it out on a course, talented kids performing, and of course cars, boats and a helicopter. This years show was held on a beautiful warm day with a good crowd enjoying the food stalls and entertainment. The committee did a great job of the organisation and this show will continue to get bigger and better. (Click on the pictures to see in full size view).

Portobello Paddock Pursuit 2015

Over you go!

Ahoy there me hearties! The 2015 Portobello Paddock was an absolute blast once again with plenty of mud, slime and water for everyone! With a damp but warm day on Sunday, organisers were a little worried about the numbers. They needn’t have worried with  over 400 children and adults taking part in the muddy challenge. With proceeds of the event going to Portobello School the organisers were overwhelmed with the generosity of the volunteers, community groups and sponsors who made the 2015 Portobello Paddock Pursuit a great success. There were plenty of challenges in the course to keep everyone on their toes and active, and plenty of the wet stuff to keep everyone happy. Many thanks to Hartley Bulger Patrick for being the photographer for the day (Click on the pictures to see in full size). Look forward to seeing everyone back again next year!

Mud galore

Our event is not possible without the generosity and assistance of our main sponsors; Cycleworld, Portobello Deli, Cartridge World, Sport Otago, Clearwater Contracting and our own Portobello Volunteer Fire Brigade.

Te Rauone Tough

Meeting of the mindsWhen Peninsula people set their mind to something there’s no holding them back. They’re into everything boots and all, with a sleeves rolled up attitude. The Te Rauone Beach Coast Care group along with the Harington Point Community Society held a meeting on Labour day to update the community on the breakwater and dune re-nourishment project in their area. On a beautiful bright day over 80 people attended with a further 25 apologies. Such attendance confirmed that these people have worked tremendously hard to get the project off the ground. Fingers crossed that they’ll get this over the line with Port Otago and the Otago Regional Council.
